Creighton | Assistive Augmentations in Healthcare Innovation: A Design Thinking Approach | The overarching topic of this talk is centred around the design and development of intelligent human-computer interfaces that extend the limits of our perceptual and cognitive capabilities. We call this ‘Assistive Augmentation.’ Creating such Assistive Augmentations poses a threefold challenge as they require 1) exploring the ways of seamlessly integrating into users body or behaviour, 2) deeper understanding of the user so as to provide right level of support while keeping the user in control 3) holistic design approach to create meaningful applications. Inspired by insights from psychology, human centred machine learning, novel input and interaction concepts, smart materials and design thinking approach, we have an unprecedented opportunity to design a new generation of Assistive Augmentations. This talk will present several proof-of-concept Assistive Augmentations for enhancing human I/O in healthcare and its enabling technologies, including wearable devices and virtual reality. |
